Smart Grid Milan set to host ELECTRA IRP’s final event

The ambitious European project exploring the Web-of Cells concept in electrical power systems with high penetration of renewables has come to a close. The Project was coordinated by RSE and saw the participation of 21 Community partners. The final event is scheduled for 21-22 February 2018

On the 21 and 22 of February Milan will host the final event of the ELECTRA IRP European project, coordinated by RSE, gathering 21 project partners from different European countries.

The project, which started in December 2013 and was set to end in February 2018, has received funding amounting to EUR 9.9 million from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme.

The final event - to be staged at the Rege Hotel in San Donato Milanese- will present and discuss the results of the project focusing on the innovative concept of web-of-cells developed for grid monitoring and explored in a high penetration of renewables scenario.

The web-of-cells is a decentralized system for the monitoring of power grids, based on which the grid is split into mutually interconnected “cells”, each capable of making best use of the flexibility made possible by its own energy sources, including energy storage systems.

Under the project, RSE was joined by a group of particularly prestigious partners, namely: AIT (AT), VITO (BE), LABORELEC (BE), DTU (DK), VTT (FI), CEA (FR), Fraunhofer-IWES (DE), CRES (GR), ENEA (IT), IPE (LV), SINTEF (NO), IEN (PL), INESC Porto (PT), TECNALIA (ES), JRC (NL/BE), TNO (NL), TUBITAK (TR), USTRATH (UK), DERlab (DE), OFFIS (DE); in other words, all European centers specializing in energy research.
