Generation evolution

RSE has developed several software tools for the long-term simulation of the evolution of the national generation system.

Among these, one of the most important is the multi-regional model of the Italian electricity system MATISSE, which was designed and devised with particular focus on the development potentials of the various sources used for the production of electricity and on the technical -economic parameters of generation technologies and final use. The model is being extended to other energy areas, beginning from those which are more closely related to the electrical industry such as gas and co-generation, in order to meet the planning requirements of the energy system, for example concerning the objectives of production from renewable sources and of energy efficiency.
RSE carries out this activity in close collaboration with MiSE (Ministry of Economic Development) and ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development).

Using the up-to-date MATISSE model, RSE carries out studies on the long-term evolution of the national electrical energy system, in order to evaluate the costs and benefits of scenarios of special interest for the Country. The regional structure of the MATISSE model can be applied to the evaluation of the Regional Energy Plans already arranged or currently being arranged by the Italian Regions.
